Emory Students Premiere Nine New Dance Works

March 31, 2015

Emory Dance Company presents ¿Searchlight,¿ an evening of student choreography created for the Emory Dance Company dancers. ¿Searchlight¿ runs April 23-25 in the Dance Studio of the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.

Choreographers Sarah Beach, Mary Rose Branch, Briana Keith, Jams La Russa, Laren Lindeen, Taylor Madgett, Elyse Schupak, Loris Takori, and Carolyn Whittingham present a visually and thematically diverse concert.

Emory junior Lindeen explores how interpersonal relationships affect identity. ¿I seek to explore the space between human connectivity¿ from both a macroscopic and microscopic perspective,¿ she explains.

All nine pieces were developed through personal exploration, introspection, and discovery, as well as collaboration with dancers and other choreographers under the guidance of Emory Dance faculty member George Staib.

¿The most rewarding part of my work is to have had the opportunity to share my thoughts through the dancing of my amazing cast,¿ reflects junior La Russa. ¿I¿m honored to choreograph for such a skillful, hardworking group of dancers.¿

¿Searchlight¿ opens in the Dance Studio of the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on April 23 at 8 p.m. Performances continue April 24 at 8 p.m. and April 25 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for discount category members, and $6 for students.
