Emory University’s annual Jazz Fest returns to the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts February 9 and 10 for two days of jazz performances and workshops with some of the world’s leading jazz musicians.
Drummer Peter Erskine has appeared on seven hundred albums and film scores and performed with Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Diana Krall, Pat Metheny and more as well as appeared as a soloist with some of the world’s most renowned orchestras. Darek Oles is one of the most sought-after bass players on the West Coast and has performed and recorded with some of the greatest masters in jazz, recording over hundred albums. Warren Wolf has a deep background in all genres of music and has been trained on the vibraphone/marimba, drums and piano.
Their weekend at Emory begins on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. with a master class featuring the three visiting artists, as well as Emory’s own Gary Motley, Professor of Performance and Director of Jazz Studies. These four artists then team up onstage as an all-star quartet for Jazz Fest’s marquee performance on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, February 10, 2018, Peter Erskine will host a drum clinic at 11:30 a.m. The 2018 festival closes that same evening with Big Band Night, a free performance featuring the Emory Big Band, Peter Erskine, Darek Oles, Gary Motley and the Emory University Symphony Strings. While this event is free, tickets are required.
